Our community

Small business owners are the key to the future: they are natural disruptors.

  • We live in a stuck, dysfunctional world:
  • 50% of the population are dealing with stress, anxiety, depression and burnout.
  • 80% of the UK working population are disengaged from their work
  • 47% of young people struggle with thought of self-loathing.
  • Government and democracy are in chaos
  • Corporates are shackled to the hierarchical structure of a different age ;whilst hypocritically spouting “our employees are most important asset” and they bleed their staff dry every day
  • The education system, unchanged since its birth hundreds of years ago and set up to “prepare our children for life” does no such thing.

What’s this got to do with Small Business owners?

We need change. In fact, we need disruption. Small business owners, by definition, are disruptors; they’ve chosen to tread their own path and have taken charge of their own destiny… to make things happen. Small businesses are nimble and dynamic; ideal to thrive in the uncertain world we live in.

The CoHooTS Community is for dynamic, disruptors who see their business not only to make money but to create change. They are driven by passion and purpose as well as by money and success.

“The programme gave me the space to simply “stop”; get off the hamster wheel and take a good long look at my world.”

Kate

In March 2019 I had suddenly hit a wall of inexplicable (or so I thought…..) and incapacitating anxiety that totally overwhelmed and frightened me. I had never experienced anything like this before and couldnʼt understand why this was happening to me!

At the time I was already a long term meditator and was very used to reaping the benefits and rewards from that practice, but when this wall of anxiety hit, my “go to” stress buster suddenly and terrifyingly didnʼt work! In fact I was unable to close my eyes in order TO meditate, and I somehow knew I was in deep trouble and needed to seek other help

The programme gave me the space to simply “stop”; get off the hamster wheel and take a good long look at my world. With the help and guidance through the programme, I learned to really engage with and understand my core values, to gain insight into how our brains and minds function, how we often continue to run learned behaviours and habits that are not serving us well, which can ultimately end up bringing us to our knees, leaving us mentally and physically exhausted. Result: burnout, meltdown … whatever you want to call it.

Going through the exercises allowed me to see that I was so busy “running on empty” I was completely missing the fact I needed to change something about the way I was functioning. The programme is multi faceted and gently encourages self revelation and self belief. The entire process proved to be a life saving turning point; a powerfully valuable experience with continuing benefits to this day.

“The programme was perfect it made me realise that I’d made achievements when I’d never realised they were.”

“I’d been to see doctors, cognitive behaviour therapists, but this programme was brilliant: it was different to anything I’d done.

I suffered from anxiety, panic attacks and agoraphobia, I couldn’t function as a human being, it was horrible. In the darkest times I thought I might die from this.

The programme was perfect it made me realise that I’d made achievements when I’d never realised they were. The programme worked and everything changed – I’ve even been on planes and eaten meals with strangers, which I hadn’t been able to do for years; it’s saved my life!”

“Since going through the programme, it feels like the sun shines that bit brighter and that bit warmer now.”

Claire

“Since going through the programme, it feels like the sun shines that bit brighter and that bit warmer now. The programme has a ripple effect. It has benefited me enormously and because of that, it continually benefits everybody I meet and everybody I touch.”

As a carer it is very easy to lose sight of yourself. I care for people all day at work, then come home and care for my family and then go to bed. I never used to make time for my individual needs, or indeed even consider them. I am very good at giving time to other people and that was immediately apparent. Anyone who works within the care sector would benefit from some structure around self-care and the programme gave me that. It helped me to rebalance and become aware.”

“I learned that when I care for myself, Iʼm a better carer to others. I was no use when mentally fatigued, sick, tired, or rundown. I couldnʼt afford for my mental health to suffer in the way it did. I was self-employed, so being ill meant no work. I also would hate to let a client down because there was nobody to step in behind me and pick up when I wasnʼt able to.”

“The programme identified I needed to make some changes in the way I viewed my situation. Since the programme, I am in a much better place. I didnʼt change my career; I just changed my outlook on things. I suffered childhood trauma because of my parents from the age of 10-16. I had never really understood the impact that had on me. Now I can deal with it. I canʼt change it, I wonʼt forget it, I am not OK with it. But I am not letting it affect me like it had done any longer, and Iʼm now 50.”

“People gradually noticed a change in me over time. I am just generally happier and more accepting.”
